Welcome to SPSM!
Museums today are more interactive, and the Sail, Power, and Steam Museum is jumping on board. Here's what you can look forward to on your next visit:
We invite you to join us on the historic site of the Old Snow Shipyard on the waterfront in Rockland, Maine, as we live our mission of celebrating, honoring, experiencing, and sharing the story of Maine's maritime heritage.
SO come on down, grab a Sextant off the shelf of our Navigation Display, bring the North Star down to the horizon -- you'll get Latitude 42° 7' 50.3652"' ... just like the early navigators did when they first discovered this special spot on the shores of Rockland Harbor.
- A museum full of fascinating collections of our maritime and local industrial heritage
- A fleet of in-water vessels for classes, day sails, and private charters (in season, by reservation)
- Sailing and seamanship classes (by reservation)
- Glorious day sails on the bay (by reservation)
- Working boat models and a functioning scale model of a lime kiln
- Steam engines that "puff" along just like they did in their heyday.
- Volunteer opportunities to work with boats, to help in the museum, to help with events, and more.
