 Currently Hiring:  Waterfront Program Director

Are you passionate about maritime education and community sailing?  Do you love working with and teaching people of all ages?  This might be the perfect job for you!  Currently structured as a seasonal position, it can transition to year-round for the right person.

OVERVIEW:
Midcoast Sailing Center (MCSC) and the Sail, Power & Steam Museum (SPSM) are seeking a Waterfront Program Director to lead and grow our diverse waterfront educational programs. This seasonal, 6-8-month position is responsible for the development, administration, and execution of our sailing and boating programs, including summer youth programs, adult lessons, charters, and shoulder-season clinics. The ideal candidate is an experienced educator, program manager, and sailing professional with strong leadership skills and a passion for community-based maritime education.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

 
Program Management & Development

- Oversee and coordinate all MCSC and SPSM educational programs, including:
  • Summer youth programs:  SKFF (Sail Kids For Free), Advanced Youth Sailing and Youth Sailing Clinics​
  • Adult programming:  Sailing lessons, charters, clinics & workshops both in the classroom and aboard our fleet of classic boats
  • Should season programs:  Boat Talk, On The Water clinics, and additional educational offerings
​- Develop and implement curriculum, workshops & hands-on learning experiences
- Expand programming by identifying new opportunities and partnerships
- Engage with Students, parents, and the community to foster a welcoming and inclusive learning environment


Operations & Administration
- Schedule & coordinate all education programs, lessons, and charters
- Update and automate administrative and enrollment systems as we expand programming
- Establish and maintain systems, procedures, and safety protocols, including Local Operating Procedures
- Manage program budgets, track expenses, and assist in fundraising efforts
- Assist with marketing & outreach, including:
  • social media updates, website content, and digital marketing
  • Print materials, advertising, and promotional collateral

Staff Management and Training
- Hire, train, and supervise seasonal staff and instructors
- Ensure staff compliance with safety policies, instructional best practices, and organizational values

Waterfront & Fleet Support
- Assist with seasonal preparation, launching, hauling, and winter storage of museum and program vessels
- Ensure all boats, docks, and facilities meet safety and operational standards
- Work with both wooden and fiberglass boats, helping maintain and preserve the fleet

QUALIFICATIONS
The ideal candidate will have:
  • USCG Captain's License
  • Experience in teaching, curriculum development, and program management in a sailing or maritime education setting
  • Strong working knowledge of both wooden and fiberglass boat maintenance
  • Expertise in US Sailing standards, safety regulations, and best practices for waterfront programming
  • Certifications preferred:  US Sailing Instructor, CPR/First Aid, SafeSport
  • Strong administrative and tech skills, including experience with various software scheduling tools enrollment systems, and program automation
  • Marketing, outreach, and community engagement experience is a plus
