Persistence in the past ... our first rebuild

Before our rebuild of Friendship Sloop Black Jack, there was Persistence.  Over the course of 3 years, our fantastic volunteers built this 28 foot Friendship Sloop.  They (and we!) all learned the art of boat building under the watchful eye of our Master Builder, Dennis Gallant.  She is now sailing the bay, hauling lobster traps and delighting visitors to the Coast of Maine.

Ever wonder how craftsmen get those beautiful curves and bends when building a wood boat?  Take a look here to watch our volunteers steam and bend the house sides of Persistence.
Our Vision Statement:
Maine's maritime heritage helped shape our nation and it will continue to influence and inspire our future.

Our Mission:
To celebrate, honor, experience, and share the story of Maine's maritime heritage.
